Being around children has always invigorated me. Perhaps that comes from having grown up as the fifth of seven in a large family. I began my early childhood adventure teaching sign language to young children with down syndrome many years ago. I found the work so rewarding, and knew I would make working with kids my career.
After I had my own family, I earned my ECE units at Diablo Valley College and dedicated my working life to helping young children and their families navigate the first years of school. I ran my own in home daycare, became a preschool teacher, then a director, and most recently an Early Childhood Science specialist. I have always enjoyed coming into work and being energized by my young friends. It’s amazing to have a job that is truly so joyful and full of love. I am happiest when I’m up to my elbows in a really cool art project. Watching how each child interprets their idea of what their piece should look like is really something to behold. Singing and storytelling are also passions of mine. I love to start a story with a small group of children & listen to see where it goes. During a typical morning at preschool, if you open your eyes and ears, you can witness the wonder of a child experiencing something for the first time, or you may overhear something really sweet, or really silly! Being a part of a child’s journey learning through play is an honor.
When I’m not teaching, you’ll find me cooking, gardening, or curled up reading a great book. I am blessed to share my life with my wonderful husband Steve, daughter Ashley, son Tim, daughter in law Laura, and new baby granddaughter Palmer!
I am so excited to start this new experience working with the wonderful staff here at Rockridge Little School. The first time I stepped into the school, I got such a great feeling. RLS is such a happy, busy and amazing learning environment. The staff is so friendly, and it was obvious that the children were engaged, content and most of all having fun. I look forward to being a part of this wonderful community!
